CEU Activities
Any combination of the following activities may be used to earn CEU points.
- Reading Résumé Books and Writing a Synopsis: Up to two points (per book) may be earned by reading an approved book and comparing it to the NCRW Study Guide. (Book list and synopsis details are described below). All book titles must be pre-approved by the Certification Commission. In most cases, approved book titles contain the words résumés or cover letters.
- Excellence in Résumé Writing: NRWA's Online Training Program: Each Segment of the training program is worth two points upon successful completion. Currently there are five Segments available, for a total of up to ten points.
- Attending Online Chats: NRWA offers monthly online chats. Those dealing with the topic of résumé writing are eligible for one CEU for those who attend the chat.
- Attending Training Conventions: Up to ten points may be earned by attending NRWA's Annual Conference and participating in training workshops. Non-NRWA conventions may earn up to two points per day (maximum of six points), depending on relevance of program content. All non-NRWA training is subject to approval by the Certification Commission.
- Other Training: Other types of training, courses, classes, and seminars may earn up to two points per full day. A maximum of six points is allowable for these types of training activities. Program content must be pre-approved by the Certification Commission and training emphasis must be on résumé writing and issues related to résumé preparation.
- Completing Current NCRW Exam: Once you have achieved NCRW status, you may also earn your entire 15 points by successfully passing the current NCRW exam (priced at 50% of the prevailing fee).
If You Haven't Taken the NCRW Exam
To qualify for the Certification Exam, you must earn ten CEUs and submit a resume and cover letter for review. All materials for CEUs must be approved by the Certification Commission in advance, unless they are already listed on the Approved CEUs List or on the Approved Book List. Qualifying training must focus on résumé writing and closely related topics.
In addition, CEUs must be earned in the three-year period preceding the exam. In other words, if you want to take the exam in December 2000, a training program completed prior to December 1997 would not qualify for CEUs.
If you have questions, please contact the Admin Manager for additional information.
You cannot take the exam until you have submitted the required CEUs and samples. Book Reports for CEUs should be submitted to Admin Manager.
If You Have Already Earned the NCRW Credential
Once you have obtained the NCRW credential, you must accumulate 15 CEUs before your certificate comes up for renewal, which is three years from the date on your NCRW certificate.
Book reports must be submitted to Admin Manager. You will be notified by e-mail when your report has been accepted.
When the time comes, NCRWs who are lacking CEUs will benotified in writing prior to their renewal date. To maintain the NCRW credential, you have two options: Complete the CEU requirements before the expiration date or take the certification exam again. In addition, you must be a member in good standing of the NRWA.
IMPORTANT: Please maintain your own personal CEU file so that any record-keeping discrepancies can be quickly resolved.
